Celebrating 75 years of Gravatt with the Future Westmoreland Director’s Cabin
For over 75 years, Gravatt Camp and Conference Center has thrived under the leadership of dedicated camp directors who built traditions and fostered a sense of belonging. The camp director plays a vital role in shaping the summer camp experience, training staff, setting standards, and creating an environment where campers feel respected, loved, and valued.
One of Gravatt’s most influential directors, Mac Westmoreland, served from 1987 to 1996. Mac was deeply committed to Gravatt, even during his battle with cancer. He founded a scholarship program that brought many students to camp, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. Mac’s legacy of Christian hospitality and love continues to define Camp Gravatt today.
To honor Mac’s contributions, Gravatt is renovating the director’s cabin at camp, and renaming the Westmoreland Director’s Cabin. This project will cost approximately $55,000, will modernize the two-bedroom, bath and kitchen cabin with new windows, wiring, HVAC, and a tankless water heater. Once completed, the Westmoreland Director’s Cabin will provide NEW and much-needed year-round lodging for guests.
With a shortage of Gravatt’s current year-round lodging and as we wrap-up our 75th anniversary, this is the right time for this renovation. Late December 2024 is the targeted completion date.
